Markham's career high not enough to lift MSU past Rambelles

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Once again, Nolisha Markham stood front and center as a Rambelle killer Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

And for the second time the senior forward poured in a career-high 27 points against Angelo State and, once again, it wasn't enough for a win as 'Belles edged past Midwestern State 65-60.

Markham connected on 11-of-14 hots including a pair of treys while pulling down eight rebounds to match her career high set earlier this season at Junell Center in San Angelo.

Markham and fellow senior Katiya Jackson answered the call when Angelo State surged to a 49-44 leadwhen Lindsey Youngblood converted a fastbreak layup with 8:50 to play.

Jackson worked her way to the free throw to hit a pair of charity tosses to spark a 10-1 run for the Mustangs.

Markham connected on a jumper in the lane then converted a nice feed from Savannah Carver before Karissa Lang found Jazman Patterson for a layup to give the Mustangs a 52-50 lead with 6:07 to play.

Markham then converted a steal for layup courtesy of an assist from Jackson then answered a pair Youngblood free throws with a 3-pointer from the left wing to give MSU a 57-52 lead with 4:11 to play.

But Angelo State charged back to tie the game on a Lindsey Youngblood 3-pointer then surged ahead 62-60 when Camille Perkins converted a traditional three-point play with 54 seconds to play.

The Mustangs would not score again as the Rambelles converted 3-of-4 free throws to clinch the win.

Paige Weishuhn connected on four 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 19 points while Perkins and Youngblood added 17 and 16 points each.

Freshman Skyler Warrick contributed a career-high eight points on 4-of-7 shooting for the Mustangs, while Kirsti Degelia finished with eight points, five rebounds and four assists.

Midwestern State (9-16, 5-8) closes the regular season against Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum in Abilene. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

Angelo State improved to 16-9 and 9-4.
