CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M's Lukas Garcia tallied the game winner in the 81st minute to provide the difference in a 3-2 upset result over No. 7 Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park.

The loss was the second straight for the Mustangs, who fell to 7-3 on the season and to 0-3 in Lone Star Conference play. It's the first time MSU has lost its first three league matches since joining the LSC/SSC in 1999 and it marks the first time the Mustangs have dropped consecutive matches since falling to Fort Lewis (Colo.) and Colorado Mines in 2005 - ironically on Oct. 7 and 9.

The Buffs, who improved to 3-6 and 1-3, drew first blood on a breakaway goal by Colin Bjostad in the 19th minute the increased the advantage to 2-0 on Rodrigo Morino blast through traffic from just inside the box in the 65th minute.

The Mustangs rallied to knot the match at 2-2 on a pair of quick strike goals in the 76th and 80th minute.

Junior forward David Freeland took a throughball in the box and beat two defenders before blasting a shot past West Texas A&M goalkeeper Sebastian Furness to draw MSU within 2-1.

The Mustangs notched the equalizer minutes later when a clear was served back into the box. WT attempted to head the ball out of trouble, but senior midfielder Chris Dwyer collected the ball and pounded it high into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign.

But the match remained tied for all of 72 seconds as the Buffs worked a nice combination in the box with Conrad Grouldbourne connecting with Garcia for the game winner.

Midwestern State controlled an 11-8 shot advantage over the Buffs including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

The Mustangs return to action Friday night against No. 15 Northeastern State at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
