PORTALES, N.M. - Miranda Byrd slammed down a match-high 16 kills to lead Midwestern State to its first Lone Star Conference road win of the season as the Mustangs took down Eastern New Mexico 25-27, 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 Tuesday night at Greyhound Arena.
The Mustangs snapped a three-game skid to improve to 13-9 on the season and to 5-8 in league play while ENMU dipped to 5-18 and 1-13.
Byrd set a career high posting a .517 attack percentage while committing just a single error in 29 attacks.
Fittingly, the senior middle blocker's miscue was part of the Mustangs sluggish start which allowed the Zias to sneak out a 27-25 win in the opening set.
The Mustangs did manage to put down 15 kills in the first set but committed seven errors to hit a respectable .222.
MSU would hit .323 in the remaining three sets as senior outside hitter
Hillary White and sophomore middle blocker
Caitlin Wallace joined Byrd in double-figure with 11 each.
Byrd also led the Mustangs at the net with seven total blocks as the Mustangs tallied a team total of 11. Freshman
Katie Bertling added four while White and Wallace had three each.
Senior libero
Kiara Jordan paced back row efforts with 25 digs while White completed her team-high eighth double-double of the season with 15 digs.
Eastern New Mexico's Jessica King paced the Zias with 14 kills while Amber Durand and Evelyn Escobar notched 12 and 11, respectably.
