WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's
Caitlin Wallace enjoyed a breakout performance Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, but it was enough to overcome great net play by Dallas Baptist as the Patriots came away with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-21 win.
Wallace, a freshman from Amarillo, posted season highs of 12 kills and seven total blocks with a .381 attack percentage.
Wallace's great outing was overshadowed by a 16-block effort as Patriots' front row mates Becky Swann and Krystal Wunderlich notched 11 and seven total blocks, respectively.
It was Swann's solo block of
Hillary White that gave Dallas Baptist momentum with a 21-19 lead late in the fourth set as the Patriots outscored MSU 9-2 after White converted
Taryn Westerman's 50th set assist of the match to give the Mustangs a 19-16 edge.
Wunderlich and Swann would combine for six kills the rest of the way to put away the game for DBU which improved to 7-6 on the season.
The Mustangs had shaken off a sluggish start to claim the second 25-18 before Dallas Baptist took control in the third.
White finished with a career-high 17 kills and completed her fifth double-double of the season with 15 digs while having a hand in three of MSU's 14 total team blocks.
Westerman finished off her first double-double of the season with 51 assists and 15 digs, while junior libero
Kiara Jordan led back row efforts with 26 digs.
Christina Steinkruger paced the Patriots with 11 kills and Kaylyn Frink finished with 20 digs to go along with seven kills and three blocks.
Midwestern State (6-6) plays host to Incarnate Word in a Lone Star Conference match Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
