Brittney Tanner delivered her sixth shutout of the season and her second one-hit gem of the season to improve to 21-2 on the season. She notched 12 strikeouts, walked one and limited the Lady Buffs to a Kimberly LeComte double to lead off the fourth inning.
It was her 11th-straight win since the start of April which has included a 10-game streak of allowing two earned runs or fewer as Tanner has lowered her season ERA from 1.93 to an impressive 1.40.
The Mustangs loaded the bases in with three-straight singles in the top of the second, but West Texas A&M starter Marci Womack appeared to work her way out of the jam inducing consecutive fielder's choice outs at the plate.
The Lady Buffs ran off the field when Mustangs' leadoff hitter
Natalie Rodriguez was originally ruled to have struck out swinging, but had to come back out on the skin after it was ruled the shortstop fouled the ball away and the catcher was unable to hang on to the ball.
Rodriguez flared the next pitch into the left-field gap to plate a pair of runs and give MSU an early 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs added two more runs on RBI singles by Tanner and
McKenzie Sickler to push the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning.
Junior
Alyson Reynolds crushed her second homer of the season over the left-field fence in the sixth inning and the Mustangs added an unearned run in the seventh to account for all of the scoring.
Reynolds paced Midwestern's 10-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a double and a homer, while
Mallory Mooney went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Sophomore left fielder
Nicki Duff extended her season-best hitting streak to 10 games with an infield single in the second inning.
Marci Womack was saddled with the loss for West Texas A&M to fall to 17-11 on the season. The sophomore right-hander yielded six runs - five earned - on 10 hits while striking out two.
West Texas A&M closes the season with a 45-18 record.
