But Texas A&M-Kingsville took control during the extra session to come away with an 83-76 Lone Star Conference South Division win.
Midwestern State overcame an 10-point deficit after Dyana Bullinger canned her second 3-pointer of the game, then Rochelle Ikeni followed with a layup to give the Javelinas a 70-60 lead with 3:06 to go.
But
Nolisha Markham's traditional three-point play kickstarted a swift 10-0 run by MSU as
Savannah Carver followed with a second-straight three-point play before hitting one of two charity tosses to pull the Mustangs within 70-67 with 1:13 to play.
Buben's shot erased the deficit to send the game into the extra session, but Texas A&M-Kingsville scored the first four points of overtime to pull away for the win.
Jazman Patterson (16 points, 12 rebounds) and
Cierra Thompson (11 points, 14 rebounds) notched double-doubles to lead the Mustangs, while
Nolisha Markham scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds off of the bench.
Angela Franklin paced the Javelinas with 17 points, while Ikeni finished with a double-double of her own with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Midwestern State, which fell to 6-11 overall and 0-4 in LSC South play, travels to face Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon. First tip from Moody Coliseum is set for 2 p.m.
Texas A&M-Kingsville improved to 15-4 and 3-1.
