WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Sunny Satery's big second half keyed Midwestern State's 66-58 win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night in Lone Star Conference South Division play at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The win was MSU fourth-straight at home as the Mustangs improved to 7-11 on the season and evened their South Division mark at 2-2.
Satery was in the middle of a 12-0 run midway through the second half which gave the Mustangs control of the contest.
Freshman forward
Cierra Thompson ignited the run with a layup before Satery and
Regiane Araujo connected on four consecutive free throws.
Breeanna Brown followed with a 15-foot jumper from the elbow, Araujo connected on two more free throws and Satery canned a jumper from the short corner to give the Mustangs a 56-44 lead.
The Zias (9-12, 0-3) clawed back to within three on a Til-Lois Fifer 3-pointer to pull within 61-58 with just under three minutes to play, but Satery was there for the Mustangs, once again.
She hit her third trey of the half, then hustled down a loose ball to give MSU possession of the ball with a six-point point lead with 1:30 to play.
Araujo and
Katiya Jackson paced Midwestern with 14 points each, while Satery and
Rosy Ofoegbu pitched in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Ofoegbu pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds, while Araujo snagged 10 boards to finish with double-doubles.
Fifer paced the Zias with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Midwestern State continues its three-game homestand next Saturday when it plays host to Abilene Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
