STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Midwestern State survived a stiff challenge from Texas-Permian Basin to come away with a 25-19, 25-27, 26-24, 21-25, 15-9 win to improve to 12-0 Saturday morning in the Tarleton State Invitiational at the Tarleton RecSports gym.
"They have always played us well since I've been here, so there is nothing surprising about that," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said.
The match featured 163 digs contributing to 379 total attacks.
"It was a really great defensive battle," Flores-Stafford said. "Defensive was going to have to step and make the opportunity for the offense."
After claiming the first and third sets, MSU took control with an efficient attack in the fifth set as the Mustangs delivered an errorless team attack to breeze to a 15-9 win in the decisive set.
Junior middle blocker
Alysha Pritt paced the Mustangs with 17 kills and added 12 digs, while senior outside hitter
Jessica Ransom had 15 kills and 12 digs.
Sesley Graves and
Whitney Maxwell contributed 10 kills each.
Senior libero
Shay Velasquez led a solid defensive effort with 17 digs as six Mustangs recorded at least 10 digs.
Senior setter
Allison Schreiber directed MSU to a .246 team attack percentage and finished with 52 assists and 13 digs.
