Mustangs clinch LSC’s No. 3 seed with a 6-0 win over SWOSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State will make its 13th-straight appearance in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament next weekend on a roll.

The Mustangs claimed their seventh-straight win by blowing out Southwestern Oklahoma State 6-0 Saturday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

"I'm happy with the way the girls played," MSU coach Jeff Trimble said. "They played with a lot of energy and for us to get to 13 wins is nice. It was a great regular season."

MSU claimed 13 regular season wins for the first time since 1999 and finished third in the LSC with a 7-3 mark.

The Mustangs will travel to Canyon, Texas to compete in the conference tournament beginning Thursday as the No. 3 seed. They will face Northeastern State in the opening at noon at the The Pitch.

The winner of that match up will face the second-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce Lions a noon on Friday in the semifinals.

The championship game is set for Sunday at a time to be determined.

Six different Mustangs scored goals Sunday as Kari Bristow and Heidi Avila put MSU up to 2-0 before intermission before Kelsey Hill, Kendra Clemons, Megan Hanlon and Brittany O'Neal notched second-half goals.

Midwestern posted at least 50 shots for the third time this season, put 28 shots on goal and passed the ball exceptionally well as six different Mustangs contributed to the team total of seven assists.

"I really liked the way we attacked today and we finished really strong," Trimble said.

It was the final home match for seniors Heather Primavera, Megan Bibilone and Michelle Harris.

"These three have really been through a lot," Trimble said. "I'm proud of them."

Southwestern Oklahoma State finishes the season with at 2-17 overall and 0-10 in the LSC.
