WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The slump couldn't possibly end at a better time for Midwestern State's
Alysha Pritt.
Pritt, a sophomore transfer from Cameron University, picked Thursday night to exact revenge on her former as she tied a season-high with 18 digs while leading the Mustangs to a 30-21, 33-31, 26-30, 30-23 conference win at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
"It's not as sweet as it could have been," Pritt said. "Everyone that I was with is now gone, but it was awesome to have my teammates behind me. It was also a great time for me to come around offensively."
Pritt registered double-digit kills for the second-straight match after suffering a five-contest drought. The Wichita Falls product finished with a .394 attack percentage to lead MSU.
It seemed she was also in the thick of long rallies as the Mustangs came back from a 19-11 deficit to take a Game 2 33-31 to take control of the match.
But Pritt got plenty of help from her teammates as junior libero
Shay Velasquez had a season-high 29 digs, while junior setter
Allison Schreiber finished with 52 set assists after having only six in the opening game of the match.
But Schreiber's total started to rise as the Mustangs attacked a .259 clip in the big comeback of the second game and then made only three errors in a 20-kill in the decisive fourth as they hit .500.
The Windthorst, Texas product now has 3,819 career set assists and needs just seven to pass Shayna Buxton, who had 3,825 from 1996-99.
Junior outside hitter
Jessica Ransom added 13 kills, while middle blocker
Sesley Graves and
Whitney Maxwell had 10 each.
Cameron was led by senior outside hitter Fernanda Queiroz who finished with 22 kills, while sophomore Lindsay Paziuk had 11 kills and freshman Ruth Johnson had 10.
The Mustangs improved to 16-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Lone Star Conference, while Cameron dropped to 7-10 and 2-3.
Midwestern travels to Goodwell, Okla. for a pair of matches on Saturday. The Mustangs take on Texas A&M-International at 1 p.m. before facing Oklahoma Panhandle State at 3 p.m.
