WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior
Amiee Duke singled up the middle to drive in the game winning run to lift Midwestern State to a 1-0 win over Northeastern State Sunday afternoon at the Sunrise Optimist Complex.
MSU swept the twin bill also nipping the Lady Reds 2-1 in the opener to improve to 32-15 overall and 18-6 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.
The Mustangs survived a superb performance by Northeastern State's India Williamson, who didn't allow a base runner until the seventh inning while MSU didn't scratch a hit until
Sarah Huddleston drilled a two-out single to left field in the ninth inning.
Williamson came on in relief of starter Stevie Bailey, who issued a four-pitch walk to Midwestern State leadoff hitter Kourtney Kemper in the first inning. She retired 18 consecutive batters before MSU's
Stephanie Wardlaw drew a walk to lead off the seventh.
Meanwhile, Midwestern State's
Jenna Deweber was also superb in the circle. The junior from Bowie scattered six hits and permitted two walks while notching four strikeouts in the 10-inning shutout to improve to 12-3.
The Lady Reds pushed a runner to third base with two outs in the first inning, but needed the international tiebreaker in the 10th inning to achieve the feat again.
The Mustangs took advantage of the opening as sophomore catcher
Racheal Jackson reached on an error allowing pinch runner
Ashley Kuchenski to advance to third. Duke followed with a single up the middle to secure the only run of the game.
MSU completed complete the sweep of the four-game series against Northeastern State after beating the Lady Reds 1-0 and 7-0 on Saturday.
