WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University women overcame a nine-point first half deficit on the way to an 80-73 Lone Star Conference divisional crossover victory against Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday night at Stockton Court
in Ligon Coliseum.
MSU evened it's record to 4-4, while Southwestern fell to 4-6 on the season.
Midwestern trailed SWOSU 18-9 with 10:25 to play when
Brandi Bush started a 9-0 run in the next three minutes to tie the game at 20.
Southwestern rebuilt it's lead to five with 4:28 before the half when an
Angie Faurot three-pointer ignited a 15-5 run for MSU who took a 38-33 lead into the half.
MSU jumped out to a 5-0 run to start the second half and never trailed by less than seven again.
A trio of MSU women scored 19 points to lead the way.
Katherine Maples had 19 points with seven rebounds, while
Katie Robertson and Faurot each tossed in 19 as well.
Kelly Cleavinger posted nine assists for MSU.
Southwestern Oklahoma got 24 points from Julie Dawson, to go with 17 points from Andrea Oldham and 10 from Dru Tomaszewski. Kayla Horn led SWOSU with seven rebounds.
Midwestern shot 54 percent from the floor overall and 8-of-16 from the three point arc, while holding SWOSU to just 45 percent from the floor.
The MSU women are off until next Saturday when they travel to Ada, Okla., to face East Central in divisional crossover action.
