Flores closes breakout spring at NCAA II Outdoor Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Midwestern State's Ashley Flores clocked a 4:42.20 in the second heat of the 1,500-meter prelims Thursday in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Grand Valley State Lacrosse and Track Stadium.
 
The junior from Haltom City placed eighth in her heat and will not move on to Saturday's finals.
 
The top four finishers of each of the two heats and the four other best times claimed finals berths.
 
Minnesota State-Moorhead's Molly Montonye (4:27.21), Metro State's Breanna Hemming (4:27.91), California State-Stanislaus' Courtney Anderson (4:27.98) and Harding's Ewa Zaborowska (4:28.21) were the top four finishers from the first heat, while Chico State's Ayla Granados (4:29.13), California State-Stanislaus' Marina Vorderbruegge (4:29.28), Alaska-Anchorage's Ivy O'Guinn (4:29.66) and Augustana's Kristin Brondbo (4:29.84) crossed the tape first in the second heat.
 
Colorado Mines' Hannah Schuster (4:28.47), Adams State's Maura O'Brien (4:28.98), Southwest Baptist's Elizabeth Luckel (4:30.16) and Chico State's Olivia Watt (4:30.31) also move on to the finals.
 
Flores caps a breakout season by earning the program's second berth in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
 
She clocked the best three 1,500-meter times in school history with a time of 4:35.95 at the West Texas A&M Classic, a 4:37.20 at the Incarnate Word Cardinal Invitational and a 4:37.52 at the LSC Championships.
 
Flores earned her second LSC Outdoor Championships medal placing third in the 1,500-meter run this spring after claiming a bronze medal in the 5,000-meter run in 2013.
 
She is also a three-time USTFCCCA All-South Central Region and four-time All-Lone Star Conference performer during the cross country season.
 
Flores is set to return for one more track season in 2015.
