NORMAN, Okla. -- Midwestern State sophomore
Ashley Flores narrowly missed an NCAA Division II provisional mark but still claimed gold in the mile run here Saturday afternoon at the OBU Bison Invitational.
Flores cruised to a 5:04.66 nearly 11 seconds faster than Texas Wesleyan's Jessica Davis but her track adjusted time of 5:01.68 fell just shy of the 5:01.25 mark set to provisional qualify for the 2012 NCAA II Indoor Championships.
Her strong her headlined a pack of six MSU runners to finish in the Top 10 in the mile including sophomore
Michelle Krezonoski (5:25.86/4th), freshman
Ana Lopez (5:30.12/5th), freshman
Brittany Adams (5:36.57/8th), freshman Alex Kohrs (5:40.51/9th) and junior
Melody Caldwell (5:42.55/10th).
Flores also claimed a runner-up finish in the 1,000-meter run clocking a 3:08.05 just behind Oklahoma Baptist's Katelyn Fritz who finished in 3:06.32. MSU freshman
Maira Salinas (3:19.00) and freshman
Katy Kipp (3:29.71) finished sixth and 11th, respectively.

Brissia Montalvo claimed a win in her second straight meet in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:17.57 while sophomore
Janel Campbell led a charge of Mustangs with a third-place time of 10:29.08 followed closely by Kim and
Michelle Krezonoski who clocked times of 10:35.35 and 10:38.12 to close fourth and fifth respectively. Adams (11:11.11) and Caldwell (11:11.72) finished 10th and 11th.
Senior
Heather Owens paced three MSU finishers in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:25.80 to close fifth followed by freshman
Carrie Finson (20:43.90/6th) and freshman Mackensey Flores (21:53.60/8th).
Midwestern State competes in the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 23 and 24 at the Texas Tech indoor facility in Lubbock.
