WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State volleyball coach
Venera Flores-Stafford announced the additions of transfers
Madelyn Johnson and
Nicole Marzik to a stacked 2013-14 signing class Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson moves to MSU after serving as redshirt last fall for Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champion New Mexico State.
Â
"Maddi is a skilled defensive specialist that spent the fall training at a high level," Flores-Stafford said. "Her experience will be valuable in the back row against our conference's tough offensive threats."

Johnson, a 5-7 defensive specialist, enjoyed a standout prep campaign at Alvin (Texas) High School where set career (1,670), season (749) and single match (49) dig records while earning all-state, District 24-5A Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-league accolades following her senior campaign of 2011.

Marzik arrives at Midwestern after enjoying a stellar campaign at NCAA Division I Fairfield (Conn.) University.

The 5-7 outside hitter garnered Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference all-rookie honors after averaging 1.80 kills and 1.71 digs per set for the league champion Stags.
Â
"Nicole is a talented outside hitter that is a joy to watch," Flores-Stafford said. "She plays six rotations with enthusiasm and grit. She is a great addition to the team."

Marzik enjoyed a stellar prep career at Prosper (Texas) High where she garnered All-State, 3A All-Star and Academic All-State honors from the Texas Girls Coaches' Association and was a two-time all-state pick by the Texas Sportswriters Association.

Alyssa Fulgium of Magnolia High,
Sarah Garfield of Holliday High and Victoria East High's
Morgan Lienemann who all signed in the fall.

Midwestern State completed the 2012 campaign with a 7-23 record.

Notables: Enjoyed a productive frosh campaign at Division I Fairfield University (Conn.) in 2012... named to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team after averaging 1.80 kills and 1.71 digs per set for the Stags who posted a 22-9 record and claimed a MAAC title... a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week... played in 51 sets with 92 kills and 57 digs and two double-doubles... had a kill and a dig in the first round of the NCAA Championship at No. 4 Southern California... had season-high 13 kills while hitting .455 against Dartmouth.... made first collegiate start and posted first double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs against William & Mary... a four-year letter winner for coach Jolene Vinson at Prosper (Texas) High School...
