WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The voters of the National Soccer Coaches' Association apparently weren't very impressed with Midwestern State's 2-0 season opening result over a tough Texas A&M International side as the Mustangs slipped two spots to No. 16 in the latest poll sponsored by Continental Tire.
Â
MSU limited the Dustdevils to just two shots while improving its regular season unbeaten streak to eight matches dating back to last season. The Mustangs are now unbeaten in their last 44 matches at the MSU Soccer Field.
Â
Midwestern remains one of four teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 1 Fort Lewis (Colo.), No. 11 Colorado Mines and No. 24 West Texas A&M.
Â
Each of the sides opened up the campaign with a pair of wins. Fort Lewis defeated Incarnate Word (2-1) and St. Edward's (2-1) while Colorado Mines also beat the same teams by matching 3-2 margins. West Texas A&M took results over Southern Nazarene (3-0) and St. Mary's (Texas) (8-0).
Â
The Mustangs have now carried a national ranking for each of the last 68 NSCAA polls in which they were eligible.
Â
MSU takes on Newman Friday night in Wichita, Kan. before returning home to face Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday at noon.
