ABILENE, Texas – The Midwestern State men's doubles teams both reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Small College South Central Regional on Sunday, but both lost in tiebreakers.
The Mustangs team of
Jarrod Liston and
Tomas Grejtak dropped a heartbreaking 9-8 match losing in the tiebreaker 8-6 to Oklahoma Christian's Josip Smoljan and Paulo Roessle in the quarters.
MSU's other team of
Luke Joyce and
Colby Meeks lost to second seeded Hans Hach and Borja Cortes of Abilene Christian also by a score of 9-8 and 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
The Liston/Grejtak team had won two other matches on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals, beating ACU's Jason Proctor and Kyle Plum 8-2 in the first round, followed by a 9-8 (5) win over Western New Mexico's Rodrigo Almeida and Juan Fuentes in the round of 16.
Joyce/Meeks also chalked up two wins on the way to the quarters, beating Andrej Klipa and Matt Banner 8-5 in the opening round and McMurry's Felipe Cruz and Preston Steblein 8-1 to advance to the quarters.
