WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State opens up at No. 3 in the first regular season NCAA Division II South Central Regional poll released Tuesday morning by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.

The Mustangs claimed a fourth-place showing at the Missouri Southern Stampede finishing behind Division I Tulsa and Arkansas as well as the host Lions, who advanced three spots to No. 3 in the Central Region rankings.

Adams State (Colo.) remained atop the rankings after claiming victory at the Regis NCAA Regional Preview Meet in at Wills Case Golf Course in Denver finishing ahead of No. 5 Colorado-Colorado Springs (2nd), No. 7 Regis (Colo.) (3rd) and No. 10 New Mexico Highlands (4th).

No. 2 Western State (Colo.) enjoyed an idle week, No. 4 Colorado Mines placed fourth behind Division I Air Force, South Dakota and Kansas State at the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.

No. 6 West Texas A&M claimed an impressive win at the Texas Tech Open outdistancing Division I Texas Tech and 9th-ranked Angelo State.

No. 8 Fort Lewis (Colo.) competed in the Southwest Cross Country Challenge in Durango, but n results were reported.

Midwestern State, which is idle this week, travels to the Kansas Invitational on Sat., Sep. 29 in Lawrence, Kan.Â
