SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 16th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs got an even-par 72 from senior Kendra Whittley in the final round of the Angelo State Concho River Classic as they finished second at the Bentwood Country Club course.
 
Whittley helped the Mustangs post a 303 as a team to finish at 603, nine strokes behind fourth ranked St. Edward's who took the team title at 594 on the par 72, 5960-yard course.  MSU was three shots in front of fifth ranked Tarleton State at 606 in the 13-team field.
 
The teams had to battle stormy conditions early, with lightning delaying the start for a hour and gusty winds continuing through the round.
 
Whittley's 72 led her to finish fifth with a two round total of 5-over 149.
 
"Kendra was in control today," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray.  "She was never in trouble and she putted well.  She hit 14 greens in regulation and was right on the edge of the others.  She was solid."
 
Brenna Moore fired her second 3-over 75 of the tournament to finish ninth at 6-over 150.
 
Lindsey Burkhart, who was in fourth after a first round 73, slipped to 13th with a second round 79 for a 152, while Taylor Klutts finished 18th with a final round 77 to total 153.  Lauren Romines put up an 83 for a final of 162.
 
Freshman Kynze Mann, who played as an individual this week, shot a 6-over 78 on Tuesday for a 162 total.
 
"We had a good round of golf," said Ray.  "We made a few mental mistakes that cost us some strokes, but we're one of the best teams in the region and I'm proud of the way we played."
 
Individually, Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perera fired a 2-under 70 to finish with an even-par 144.  She won a scorecard playoff with Incarnate Word's Flower Castillo who tallied a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to finish even at 144.  St. Ed's Haley Haught shot a 1-under 71 for third at 1-over 145.
 
The MSU women are idle until Oct. 15-16 when the Mustangs play at the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas.
