WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State Athletic Training Staff was honored by its peers with the eighth annual Lone Star Conference Training Staff of the Year award for the 2011-12 academic years as released Tuesday by league officials.
The staff, led by Gary Diehm and assisted by Tatum Carroll and Christanie Rodriguez, has claimed the accolade three times in the last five years.
"We're greatly humbled by receiving this honor," Diehm said. "We don't hold a monopoly on providing great service in the conference. Every athletic training staff in the LSC is exceptional."
The LSC Athletic Training Staff of the Year is presented annually to the top institution as voted by the head athletic trainer at each member institution.
The purpose of the award is to raise awareness of the athletic training profession. Criteria for the award includes the athletic training staff's hospitality toward visiting athletic trainers and teams; preparedness with supplies, equipment and services for visiting athletic trainers and teams; preparedness for emergency situations; and care for injured athletes from visiting teams.
