DALLAS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs sit ninth after the first day of action at the Dallas Baptist University Classic Monday at the Golf Club of Dallas.
 
Midwestern opened with a 291 in the first round and followed it with a 277 in the second round to stand at 568, three strokes behind West Texas A&M in eighth.
 
Texas Wesleyan leads the tournament at 553, with Lubbock Christian second at 555 and Abilene Christian at 558, with St. Edward's and Central Oklahoma fourth at 559.
 
The Mustangs are being paced by sophomore Jeremy LeGuen who fired an even-par-70 in the opening round to go with a 1-under-69 in the second to tie for 17th at 1-under 139.
 
Junior Raine Copeland fired a second round two-under 68 to go with his opening round 73 for a 1-over 141.
 
The best round of the day was by freshman Derek Oland who popped a 3-under 67 in the second round after posting a 5-over 75 in the opening round.
 
Senior Brett Perry added a 73-75—148 for the Mustangs, while junior Sam Smith carded a 76-73—149.
 
Senior Trevor Arianna tallied a 76-71—147 playing as an individual.
 
The final round at the par 70, 6,719 yard Golf Club of Dallas is set for Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
