TROPHY CLUB, Texas -- For the second straight season, the Midwestern State Mustangs was the runner up at the Firestone Lone Star Conference Golf Championships.  Only this year, MSU had wanted more.
 
"We just did not have a good day," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray.  "There we were three strokes out of first, but it was one of those days."
 
The Mustangs posted a 314 in the final round to finish at 616, 19 strokes behind five-time LSC Champion Tarleton State at 597.  Texas A&M-Commerce was third at 624.
 
MSU's Kendra Whittley, who held the first round lead, suffered on Tuesday.  After touring the par 72, 5,864 yard Whitworth Course of the Trophy Club Country Club in 1-under 71 on Monday, Whittley bogied five of the first 10 holes on her way to an 8-over 80 in the final round to finish at tied for seventh at 151.
 
"Kendra got off to a tough start and just didn't putt particular well today," said Ray.
 
A pair of Mustangs tied for 12th as Brenna Moore and Taylor Klutts totaled 9-over 153 for the tournament.  The freshman Moore fired MSU's low round on Tuesday with a 4-over 76, while junior Klutts chalked up a 7-over 79.
 
Junior Lindsay Burkhart added an 81 to her opening round 80 for a 161 to tie for 22nd, while junior Lauren Romines counted a 79 in the team score to finish at 162.
 
"We just didn't put together at the right time and hopefully we do better at the regional," Ray added.
 
The Mustangs still are in great shape to be selected for their first team berth in the NCAA Division II Super Region 4 Championship May 6-8 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
