Montalvo to compete in steeplechase Thursday at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Midwestern State senior Brissia Montalvo continues her quest for national qualification in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase Thursday night in the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
 
The El Paso clocked an 11:05.20 in her first full 3,000-meter Steeplechase last weekend at the UTA/Bobby Lane Invitational.
 
"The mark met the provisional time, but she needs to get faster," MSU coach Koby Styles said. "The plan wasn't to complete the whole event, but her split times were all under 11 minutes."
 
The automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Division II Championship meet is 10:35. The meet is set for May 24-26 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
 
Montalvo is among a field of 13 in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase at the Texas Relays which includes West Texas A&M's Jessica Blakely and Brenda Sindet, Trinity's Jessie Dean, Houston's Kathryn Ducommun, Northwestern (La.)'s Allison Fontenot, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Ceciila Gonzalez and Melissa Jones, Texas' Brittany Marches, Lubbock Christian's Tashah Overbo, Stephen F. Austin's Randi Plentl and Texas Tech's Chelsea Scott.

The 3,000-meter Steeplechase begins Thursday at 8:10 p.m.
