LUBBOCK, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs got a chance to take on Top 40 Division I competition Friday night, but fell to the Texas Tech Red Raiders of the Big 12 6-0 at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Only singles were played in the match as Division I uses a singles plus one point for doubles format.
The Mustangs, ranked 30th in NCAA Division II dropped to 5-8, while the Raiders, ranked 29th in Division I, improved to 10-6.
MSU's closest match was at No. 6, where
Jarrod Liston battled Raphael Pfister, but fell 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 1, 59th ranked Gonzalo Escobar beat
Luke Joyce 6-2, 6-2, while
Mario Urban fell at No. 2 to Raony Carvalho 6-2, 6-0.
Colby Meeks lost at No. 3 to Rafael Garcia 6-1, 6-1, as
Tomas Grejtak dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Vitor Manzini at No. 4 and
Kacper Boborykin lost to Francisco Zambon 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday in a non-conference match against Dallas Baptist. First serve at the MSU Tennis Center is at 1 p.m.
