HEBRON, Ky. -- Midwestern State senior guard
Michael Loyd garnered Daktronics third-team All American honors Tuesday night as released by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.

Loyd added to his postseason resume by earning a first-team all-region honor as he was named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region squad earlier this month.
Â
The 6-1 guard was named the Most Outstanding Player of the South Central Regional after averaging 14.7 points and 4.0 assists per game which included a season-high 21-point performance in a 72-63 win over Washburn in the semifinal round before tallying 19 points in a final round victory over Arkansas Tech.

Loyd leads the Mustangs in scoring with 13.0 points per game this season and is the first player in Midwestern history to earn Daktronics All America honors.

The Las Vegas native becomes the fifth MSU player to earn All-America accolades over the past six seasons joining Eric Dawson (Basketball Times/2nd) in 2007, Nolan Richardson (NABC/1st, D2Bulletin/3rd) in 2009, Craig Green (D2 Bulletin, HM) in 2010 and
Chris Hagan (Basketball Times/3rd, D2 Bulletin/HM).

Loyd is one of three players from the South Central Region on the third team joining Missouri Southern center Keane Thomann and Washburn guard Will McNeill. Metropolitan State's Reggie Evans and Montevallo's D.J. Rivera round out the squad.

Bemidji State's James Ellisor garnered 2011-12 Ron Lenz National Player of the Year accolades after piloting the Beavers to their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season title since 2003-04 The 6-5 forward averaged 22.9 point and 6.0 rebounds per contest.

Filling out the first team is Mars Hill forward Sammy Emile, Shaw guard Malik Alvin, C.W. Post guard Stefan Bonneau and Alabama-Huntsville guard Josh Magette.

The second team consists of Alaska-Anchorage center Taylor Rohde, Bellarmine guard Braydon Hobbs, Kentucky Wesleyan forward Anthony Young, Ashland forward Evan Yates and BYU-Hawaii guard Jet Chang.

Midwestern State takes on Western Washington in the opening round of the 2012 Elite Eight Wednesday afternoon at the Bank of Kentucky Center. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. (Central Time)
