No. 13 Midwestern takes second at Dana Rader Intercollegiate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Midwestern State Mustangs putts just did not drop on Tuesday in the second round of the Dana Rader Intercollegiate they way they did on day one and it was just enough for the Mustangs to drop behind Lander (S.C.) to take second in the tournament at the Ballentyne Resort.

The 13th ranked Mustangs shot a 618 in the final round to finish three strokes behind Lander in the two-horse race for the tournament title.  Host Pfeiffer totaled 632 to finish third in the 15 team field.

"We played just as well as we did yesterday tee to green," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray.  "But the putts we holed out yesterday just didn't go in today."

MSU freshman Brenna Moore fired a second 3-over 75 to move up to fourth overall at 6-over 150 just a stroke out of first.

That three-way tie had to be settled by a scorecard playoff that saw Kelly Pearce of Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) become the winner, with Emelie Andersson of Mt. Olive (N.C.) and Chelsea Demers of Pfeiffer tied for second at 5-over 150.

Moore earned all-tournament honors for her finish.

The Mustangs Taylor Klutts, who was tied for the lead after the first round, posted an 80 to go with her 72 in round one for a total of 8-over 152 to tie for seventh overall.

Kendra Whittley shot 82 in the final round to end 20th at 159, while Lindsay Burkhart was a shot back in 21st at 160.  Lauren Romines carded an 87 in the final round for a 163 total to tie for 25th.

"The hole placements were tougher and we started in a misty rain that gave us some trouble," Ray added. "We actually played a great tournament against a strong field, but I'm disappointed that we didn't win the tournament."

The Mustangs return to action next week in Wichita Falls as they host the MSU Invitational at The Champions Course at Weeks Park on Monday and Tuesday.
