WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State slipped three spots to 10th in the latest South Central Region rankings released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee.
The Mustangs (19-7) enter play Thursday in the Lone Star Conference Tournament as MSU efforts to qualify for its first NCAA Division II postseason since 2003.
Washburn (Kan.) retains the top spot, with Pittsburg State (Kan.) sitting in the number two spot and Northeastern State (Okla.) at No. 3, the same as last week.
Emporia State (Kan.) moved up to the fourth spot this week, with Tarleton State dropping back to fifth and Arkansas Tech climbing to sixth. Central Missouri is seventh, followed by West Texas A&M, Newman (Kan.) and MSU.
MSU has the second most in-region wins among the ranked teams with 19 along with Tarleton and Washburn. Pitt State has 22 wins in the South Central region.
The top eight teams in the region on Sunday, March 4 advance to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The NCAA Division II Tournament starts with the regional round Friday, March 9th through Monday, March 12th. The champions of the eight regions advance to the Women's Elite Eight Tuesday, March 20 through Friday, March 23 at St. Mary's Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.
