Mustangs receiving votes in USA Today Sports Top 25

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is receiving votes in the most recent USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs are off to their best start since opening the 2000-01 with four consecutive victories on the way to the program's only Lone Star Conference championship.

The Mustangs (3-0) opened the 2012-13 campaign with wins over McMurry (79-58), Colorado Mines (67-60) and Fort Lewis (Colo.) (68-54).

MSU received 25 votes this week and were mentioned in five consecutive USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 polls last season. The Mustangs have never achieved a national ranking as an NCAA Division II program.

Midwestern is one of six teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 21 Tarleton State and No. 24 Metropolitan State (Colo.) while Fort Lewis (Colo.), Colorado Mesa, St. Mary's (Texas) and Colorado State-Pueblo are receiving votes.

The Mustangs hit the road to face Oklahoma Panhandle State Sunday afternoon in Goodwell. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
