WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State qualified for its fifth playoff appearance Sunday afternoon when the NCAA Division II Football Committee released the playoff field.

The Mustangs were a bit surprised to discover they will hit the road to face the University of Indianapolis in next Saturday's opening round as the No. 5 seed.

"We're excited about going to the playoffs and look forward to it," MSU coach
Bill Maskill said.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (Central Time). Ticket information will be released early this week.

The No. 9-ranked Mustangs ride a nine-game winning streak into the postseason after claiming a 35-17 win over West Georgia Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. MSU has won 19 of its last 20 regular season contests.

Indianapolis (Ind.) has also won nine consecutive games as the Great Lakes Valley Conference champions after coming from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Urbana 31-24 in its regular season finale on Saturday.

The Hounds (9-2) boast a trio of offensive threats including Harlon Hill candidate Klay Fiechter, who has rushed for 1,436 yards and 18 touchdowns, wide receiver Mar'Quone Edmonds (89 receptions for 1,250 yards, 17 touchdowns) and quarterback Chris Mills (209-306, 2,702 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions).

Midwestern State beat Missouri S&T 41-0 in its last GLVC showdown to begin the 2011 campaign. The Miners were GLVC runners-up this season.

The winner advances to face No. 1 Colorado State-Pueblo on Sat., Nov. 24 at the Thunder Bowl in Pueblo.

The other side of the Super Region Four bracket pits West Texas A&M at Chadron State (Neb.) in the opening round with the winner moving on to face Ashland (Ohio).
