Cardinals extend MSU's skid, 3-1

SAN ANTONIO -- Incarnate Word's Kelci Lind and Beth Soukup combined 26 kills to lead the Cardinals to a 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at McDermott Center.

The loss is the seventh straight for the Mustangs who fell to 4-19 on the season and 2-11 in Lone Star Conference play.

Midwestern continues its five-game road swing with matches at Eastern New Mexico on Friday and Texas Woman's on Saturday.

Sophomore middle blocker Kasey Decker put down four of her six kills in the opening set to lift the Mustangs to a 25-22 win.

But behind a pair of 13-kill efforts by Lind and Soukup and a 12-kill effort by Anglique Vidaurri, the Cardinals recovered to take the remaining three sets to secure the victory.

Courtney Haney, Beatriz Villalba and Michelle Blount had eight kills each to lead the MSU attack and Shelbi Stewart added seven more.

Blount paced the Mustangs at the net with five total blocks while sophomore libero Casey Fletcher had 20 digs to lead back row efforts.

Incarnate Word improved to 8-14 on the season and to 5-8 in the LSC.
