Midwestern remains third in increasingly competitive region

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State stood solid at third for the third straight week Tuesday when the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association released its weekly poll.

The Mustangs took an impressive eighth-place finish at the Kansas Rim Rock Collegiate Classic Saturday in Lawrence outdistancing a pair of Division I big conference programs in Nebraska and Texas Tech.

MSU plays host to the Sikes Senter Cross Country Carnival Saturday morning at the former Henrietta Country Club. Race time is set for 9 a.m.

Adams State (Colo.) maintained top billing after finishing second in a field of 34 teams to the host school at the Stanford Invitational, while Western State (Colo.) rolled on at No. 2 after taking third in the 17-team university field at the 76th Annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.

Colorado Mines weighed in at No. 4 despite finishing behind No. 6 West Texas A&M at the same Cowboy Jamboree.

Colorado-Colorado Springs kept the No. 5 position claiming victory at the 38-team Maroon Division II field at the Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico cracked the poll at Nos. 7 and 8 after finishing third and fourth respectively in the college division of the Cowboy Jamboree, while Dallas Baptist moved in at No. 9 after claiming victory at the Rogue Running Grass Routes Running Festival in Austin.

Regis (Colo.) dropped three spots to No. 10 with an 11th-place showing the Kansas Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic.
