DALLAS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs posted the best score of the final round to finish second at the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas.
 
The 18th ranked Mustangs fired a collective 299 to finish at 602, six strokes behind second ranked St. Edward's at 596.  Midwestern was five strokes better than No. 20 Dallas Baptist in third at 607 and No. 12 Central Oklahoma was fourth at 613.
 
The 17-team tournament featured the four Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association Top 25 teams and fourth others receiving votes.
 
"We played great golf as a team today," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray.  "Even as the wind picked up we played even better.  We wanted to show we can play and we did."
 
Senior Lindsay Burkhart carded a 2-over 74 in the final round to finish in a sixth place tie at 3-over 147.
 
"Lindsay had a great tournament," said Ray.  "She played some of the best golf she's ever played at MSU.  She was in control of her game."
 
Sophomore Brenna Moore fired a 1-under 73 on the par 72, 5,817-yard GCD layout and senior Taylor Klutts added a 2-over 74 as the pair wound up in a two-way tie for 10th at 7-over 151.
 
Senior Lauren Romines tallied a 6-over 78 in the final round for a 153, while senior Kendra Whittley turned in an 82 for a 163 total.
 
"This shows the depth of our team," said Ray.
 
A bright spot was also the play of freshman Kynze Mann, playing as an individual, who fired a 1-over 73 to finish at 160.
 
"Kynze had six birdies in a great round," Ray added.  "Being able to play in tournament competition without worrying about a team score has been great for her."
 
The Mustangs conclude their fall season next Monday and Tuesday at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the Fort Sill Golf Club in Lawton.
