DALLAS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs are tied for third after the first round of the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas.
 
The Mustangs posted a first round total of 303 to stand 10 strokes behind first round leader St. Edward's at 293 and two behind second place Chico State (Calif.) at 301.  MSU is tied with Texas A&M-Commerce in the 17-team field.
 
Midwestern was paced by the play of Lindsay Burkhart who is in fifth place after firing a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round on the par 72, 5,817 yard layout.
 
"Lindsay had a great round," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray.  "She's really in control of her game today.  She played well and hit a lot of greens in regulation."
 
Lauren Romines just missed being in the top 10 after round one, standing 11th at 3-over 75.  Taylor Klutts tallied a 5-over 77, while Brenna Moore posted a 6-over 78.  Kendra Whittley turned in an 81 in the opening round.
 
"We're in a good spot right now, even with a bad day from the top of the lineup," said Ray.  "We'll play in the last group Tuesday and will know what we need to do.  It'll be fun."
 
The Mustangs also had Kynze Mann playing as an individual, with a first round score of 87.
 
Individually, Dallas Baptist's Mercedes Rios and St. Edward's Haley Haught are tied for the lead after carding 3-under 69 in first round play.  Alexandra Bush of Chico State and Laura DeLeonardis of Northwood (Texas) had 2-under 70s to tie for third.
 
The tournament's final round is Tuesday.
