WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State tennis coach
Scott Linn announced the signings of three women to National Letters of Intent to play for tennis for the Mustangs beginning next year.
Linn announced that
Lauren Pineda of Allen, Kynzee Watson of McKinney Boyd and Kayla Casey of Franklin have signed with Midwestern.
"This class of outstanding players will give us a base to continue building our program at Midwestern," said Linn.
Pineda, a senior at Allen High, won a USTA Super Champ tournament while achieving a career-high ranking of 48 in Texas. She's been named All-District in singles and doubles at Allen since her sophomore year and was the AHS Player of the Year during her sophomore campaign. She was the district's double champ as a junior and won the Eagle Heart Award.
"Lauren is a fantastic young lady that has an all-court game" said Linn. "She won our MSU Campus Showdown in September of this year, so I know she will help us immediately."
Watson, a senior at McKinney Boyd, is the three-year captain of the Boyd team. She helped lead her team to third place at this fall's UIL State 5A Team Championships and helped her team to a regional semifinal berth as a junior.
"Kynzee has tremendous potential," Linn commented. " She is a big lefty who is not afraid to transition on the court. I am sure her best tennis is in front of her."
Casey won the UIL 2A State Championship in singles as a freshman in 2009 and a sophomore in 2010. She then teamed with a younger sister to win the UIL 2A State Doubles Championship as a junior last year. Twice named the Female Athlete of the Year at Franklin High, Casey has earned a USTA Texas state ranking of 24th in singles and first in doubles. She is the sister of MSU player
Kendra Casey.
"Great to have another Casey in the program," Linn said. "Kayla is extremely athletic, and has tremendous fight as a competitor. She understands full well what it takes to win championships have been a 3-time Texas State Champion."
The trio will enter MSU this coming fall semester.
