SALEM, Va. - Midwestern State's Brittney Tanner and Elena Bennett were named to the NCAA Division II Championship all-tournament Sunday after California-San Diego claimed the national title with a convincing 10-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville at the Moyer Sports Complex.

Tanner, a senior from Burkburnett, posted a 1-1 mark in national tournament play allowing two earned runs on 11 hits in 17 innings for a 0.82 ERA. She recorded 25 strikeouts and walked one.

Tanner posted her 14th shutout of the season to lead the Mustangs to a 1-0 victory over Minnesota State to help MSU to its first national semifinalist showing in program history.

She also led MSU at the plate where she hit .364 (4-for-11) with a double and an RBI.

Tanner drove in the Mustangs' first run of the tournament on what turned out to be MSU's only extra-base hit of the weekend with a double in the sixth inning in a first round loss to Alabama-Huntsville.

Her infield single in the top of the seventh against Minnesota State extended the inning allowing Alyson Reynolds the opportunity to lace a single to right field to plate the game's only run.

Bennett earned all-tournament honors on the strength of the great defensive play of the Midwestern State outfield.

The sophomore All American displayed her range by recording 11 putouts and notched an outfield assist to cut down a runner at the plate in Saturday's semifinal setback against Alabama-Huntsville.

Bennett hit .308 at the plate recording three hits to finish the season with a school record of 91.

California-San Diego senior pitcher Camille Gaito garnered most outstanding player honors after going a perfect 4-0 in the circle for the national champion Tritons.
