Midwestern boasts three Daktronics All Americans

SALEM, Va. - Midwestern State placed three players on the Daktronics All America teams released Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information of America.

Senior pitcher Brittney Tanner garnered second-team honors, while junior third baseman Mallory Mooney and sophomore outfielder Elena Bennett earned third-team honors.

Tanner, who was named a first-team All American by the National Fast-pitch Coaches' Association earlier in the day, played a key role in leading the No. 5-ranked Mustangs to the first College World Series appearance in program history.

The Burkburnett product has posted a 30-8 mark with three saves while notching a 1.49 ERA. Tanner ranks second in the nation with 13 shutouts and is third in NCAA Division II with 336 strikeouts.

Mooney claims her first collegiate All-America honors after enjoying a banner season at the hot corner for the Mustangs.

The Mesquite Horn High product boasts a .365 batting average while setting school records with 15 home runs and 69 RBIs while posting a stellar .961 fielding percentage at third base.

Bennett added her second All-America honor of the postseason as she was also earned second-team NFCA Louisville Slugger accolades.

The sophomore center fielder from Carrollton led the South Central Region with a .420 batting average while setting school records with 87 hits and 39 stolen bases.

Midwestern State was one of six teams to place multiple players on the Daktronics All-America teams and led the way with three selections.

Other players representing the Lone Star Conference included West Texas A&M outfielder Kimberly LeComte (second team) and Angelo State designated player Kaycee Taylor.

North Georgia's Jessica Coan was named the Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year, while Grand Valley State's Katie Martin gained Ron Lenz Player of the Year honors.
