SAN ANGELO, Texas - Midwestern State junior Brissia Montalvo headlined another strong showing for Midwestern State during its unofficial spring track season Saturday at the Angelo State David Noble Relays.
 
The El Paso native claimed gold in the 5,000-meter run as the Mustangs placed eighth out of 19 teams earning 29 points in two events.
 
Montalvo clocked a 17:59.25 to edge silver medalist Emeline Crutcher of Angelo State by 3 seconds and teammate Sydnee Cole earned a bronze medal with a time of 18:12.08.
 
Midwestern's Cara Mack (19:26.98), Melody Caldwell (19:35.64) and Heather Owens placed 10th, 11th and 25th respectively.
 
Freshman Ashley Flores lost the sprint to the tape to Crutcher (4:47.39) in the 1,500-meter run to settle for a silver medalist showing with a 4:47.66, while fellow freshman Janel Campbell finished fourth with a time of 4:54.66.
 
Midwestern State closes the spring season with the Kansas Relays set for April 20-23 in Lawrence.
