WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs held steady through a windy second day of competition to finish in fourth place at the MSU Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
The Mustangs turned in a three-round total of 910 after posting the second-best team score in the final round of 304. The Mustangs finished 18 strokes behind Oklahoma Christian who won the team title with an 892. Newman (Kan.), who turned in a 299 on Tuesday, finished second with a 900 total. Northeastern State ended third at 901.
Newman's Ed Herzog claimed the individual title, firing a one-over 72 on Tuesday to finish one-over 214. Northeastern State's Casey Nelson was second with a six-over 219 after a 76 on Tuesday, while Texas A&M-Commerce's Patrick Russo placed third at seven-over 220 with a 75. St. Mary's Matt Vela and Dallas Baptist's Jeffery Juillerat tied for fourth place at eight-over 221.
The Mustangs were paced by a eighth place performance by
Raine Copeland. He carded a three-over 74 to finish at 11-over 224. MSU added top 20 finishes with 76s by
Sam Smith and
Jeremy LeGuen. Smith was 14th at 226 and LeGuen 19th at 227.
Trevor Arianna carded a 78 to finish at 234 and
Antonio Herran an 80 for a 238. Playing as individuals, MSU's
A.J. Pursley was 22nd after a one-over 72 on Tuesday to finish with a 228, while
Brett Perry added a 77 for a 231 to place 31st.
The Mustangs are in action again next Monday and Tuesday at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational at the Golf Club of Dallas.
