FORT SMITH, Ark. - Midwestern State showed improvement all the way through the lineup as the Mustangs bettered their first-round total by 16 strokes to finish fifth at the Lions Classic play on the Par-70, 6,412-yard course at Hardscrabble Country Club.

Sophomore Antonio Herran stood out with a final-round 71 (+2) to finish with a two-round total of 146 (+6) to finish within three-strokes of top individual medalist Clark Collier of Oklahoma City University. Collier carded rounds of 74 and 69 for a total of 143 (+3).

Junior Trevor Arianna improved four strokes with rounds of 80 and 76 to finish tied for 18th with a total of 156 (+16) while sophomore Raine Copeland bettered his first-round score of 81 to 76 to finish tied for 21st with a total of 157 (+17).

Freshman Jeremy LeGuen carded rounds of 81 and 78 for a total of 159 (+19) to tie for 25th while junior Brett Perry recorded scores of 82 and 79 to close 29th with a total of 161 (+21).

Sophomore Sam Smith recorded a Top 10 finish competing as an individual medalist with rounds of 73 and 77 for a total of 150 (+10).

Midwestern State finished 28 strokes off of the pace of tournament champion Oklahoma City which recorded rounds of 304 and 288 for a total of 592.

The Mustangs compete in the Panther Invitational hosted by Drury (Mo.) University from March 14-15 at Rivercut Golf Course.
