WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State slipped out of the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II Poll after splitting a pair of Lone Star Conference South Division contests last week.
The Mustangs (13-3) lost their divisional opener for the second straight season falling at Angelo State 82-81 in overtime then rebounded to beat Abilene Christian 84-62 Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU received two votes to remain one of six teams from the rugged South Central Region to receive mention in the poll.
Fort Hays State (Kan.) (14-2) dropped five spots to No. 8 after suffering a defeat to Missouri Southern (13-1), which improved eight places to No. 14.
Incarnate Word (13-1) bumped ahead three spots to No. 9 and Central Oklahoma (16-2) moved up two places to No. 13.
West Texas A&M (13-2) dropped just two places in the poll despite suffering back-to-back losses to Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico last week.
National scoring leader West Liberty (W. Va.) remains the unanimous No. 1 pick of the eight pollsters while Bellarmine maintained its No. 2 ranking followed by Augusta State (Ga.), Southern Indiana and Cal State-Dominguez Hills to round out the top five.
Midwestern State plays host to Eastern New Mexico Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.
