Duo of Westwick and Diaz ranked eighth in fall ITA rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – After advancing to the ITA Cup in their first fall on campus at Midwestern State, the duo of freshman Ben Westwick and sophomore Alberto Diaz earned a No. 8 national ranking in the final fall poll.
The duo plowed through the South Central Region, taking out three of the top five seeds to earn the berth in the ITA Cup and taking the No. 1 ranking in the regional poll.
The Mustangs dominated the regional rankings in both singles and doubles with four doubles teams and five individuals earning a spot in the poll.
Alex Martinez Roca and Denney Norrie came in at No. 4 after advancing to the semifinals of the regional tournament, followed by Dillon Pineda and Nolan McCaig at No. 5. The pair of Jean Muniz and Angel Palacios rounded out the rankings for the Maroon and Gold at No. 7.
In singles, McCaig (10th), Palacios (11th) and Pineda (13th) climbed up the regional standings after moving to the Round of 16 at the regional tournament. Martinez Roca (17th) and Yaswanth Mylavarapu (20th) closed out the poll.
MSU Texas begins the dual match schedule on Feb. 2 at Collin College in Plano.
