Bryant-led Mustangs seventh after opening round at Charles Coody Classic

Day 1 Results

ABILENE, Texas - Chad Bryant blistered the Par-71, 6,977-yard course at the Diamondback Golf Club with an opening round 2-under 69 to Midwestern State to a team total of 291 in the opening round of the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate. The total placed the Mustangs seventh as the team will chase Abilene Christian (277, -7), Central Oklahoma (278, -6), Newman (Kan.) (280, -4), St. Edward's (Texas) (280, -4), Texas Wesleyan (282, -2) and Cameron (285, +1) in a very solid 18-team field. Bryant heads into Tuesday's final round of the 36-hole tournament tied for eighth place and three strokes behind tournament leading Ed Herzog (Newman) and Zach Monson (Texas Wesleyan) who each carded matching 5-under 66s as 27 golfers notched Par-or-better rounds. Senior Travis Klutts (70, -1), sophomore Raine Copeland (74, +3) and freshman Jeremy LeGuen (78, +7) recorded MSU's other countable rounds, while sophomore Sam Smith fired a 9-over 80.
