Sawyer rightly earned the reputation as one of the best one-on-one defenders in Midwestern State history.

The Denton native was the first player in Lone Star Conference history to earn multiple defensive player of the year honors gaining the accolade in 2001 and 2002.

Sawyer played a key role in helping the Lady Indians post 26 shutouts during her career as she garnered all-conference mention in each of her four campaigns despite turning to organized soccer in just her junior year at Denton High.

The one-time nationally ranked gymnast gained All-LSC honorable mention after starting 21 matches as a freshman before gaining first-team honors in each of her final three campaigns for coach Jeff Trimble including a second-team all-region mention by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America following her senior season.

Also a stalwart in the classroom, Sawyer was named to the LSC All-Academic Team each year she was eligible (2000, 2001 and 2002).
