Jack Russell (1947-49) competed for three season on the gridiron at Hardin College including one of the finest seasons in school history.

Russell helped the Indians to a 10-1 record and a mythical small college national championship on the way to a Gulf Coast Conference championship.

Russell would later on the Midwestern State Board of Regents from 1981-87.
