Howard Patterson lifted the Midwestern State soccer program great heights after taking over the upstart program in its second year of existence in 1973.

In his 17 years at the helm, Patterson ranked among the top five active coaches in winning percentage while posting a 221-85-20 mark (.709) as the Indians advanced to the NAIA National Tournament on 10 occasions including a pair national runner-up finishes on their home pitch in 1982 and 1983.

Patterson mentored 19 All Americans after arriving on campus from Westboro, Mass. as a graduate of Springfield College.

He was selected as NAIA and NSCAA Coach of the Year in 1988.

Patterson was a 16-time NAIA District Coach of the Year while earning Area honors eight times.
