Gene McKibben paced Midwestern to its first NAIA National Tournament after transferring from Tyler Junior College prior to the 1952-53 season.
The 6-7 forward set six new scoring records averaging 19.1 points a game for the Indians including a career-high 37-point performance in MU's 86-73 win over Abilene Christian in the NAIA West Zone final to clinch the Indians first national tournament berth.
The Lake Jackson, Texas native averaged a double-double with 12.1 points and 10.3 rebounds a game helping MU back to the NAIA Zone 8 Playoffs in 1953-54.
McKibben, who tied for the Gulf Coast Conference scoring title in 1952-53, tallied 787 points in his two seasons at Midwestern.
