Brittany Willson played a crucial role in quickly building the upstart Midwestern State softball program into a conference, regional and national contender.
The Burkburnett High product became the first MSU softball player to earn All-America honors while leading the then-Lady Indians to three trips to the NCAA Division II postseason culminating in a Lone Star Conference championship and the South Central's top seed in 2006.
Willson became MSU's first softball player in the Hall of Honor.
The Midwestern State Athletic Hall of Honor represents the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the MSU Department of Athletics. The accomplishments of those enshrined exemplify the character, spirit, commitment, high level of achievement and reflect the honor, excellence and traditions of the university.
Individuals are recognized for their contributions as student-athletes, coaches, administrators or outstanding advocates of Midwestern State Athletics.
Already a feared right-hander pitcher in the LSC prior to transferring to lead the brand new program in the circle, Willson twice earned LSC North Division Pitcher of the Year accolades (2004, 2006) and was a three-time LSC North first-team awardee while gaining NFCA third-team All-America honors following her senior season.
This came on the heels of a stellar frosh campaign in 2002 at Texas Woman's where Willson won 25 games and posted a 1.50 ERA to earn LSC South Freshman of the Year and first-team all-league honors.
She carried over the success weaving seven shutouts with 18 wins helping the first-year program roll to an LSC North Division championship earning a berth in the NCAA Division II postseason.
Willson, who was also a three-time NFCA all-region performer, was just getting warmed up as she won 21 games posting a collegiate best ERA of 1.34 helping the Mustangs return to the postseason tournament after taking second in the LSC North.
Willson saved her best for last going 29-10 as a senior with eight shutouts and 270 strikeouts as MSU claimed its first LSC title as the tournament's MVP earning the top seed in the NCAA II South Central Regional.
She closed her career with an LSC record 93 wins while setting the standard for Midwestern State in numerous statistical categories including ERA (1.44/1st), wins (68/2nd), saves (7/2nd), shutouts (20/3rd) and strikeouts (678/2nd).
