Mustangs place four All-Americans on Daktronics and NFCA squads

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State placed four players on a pair of All American teams as released Wednesday night.

Junior catcher Kim Jerrick and sophomore third baseman Kelley Schaefer garnered first-place mentions from the National Fast-pitch Coaches' Association and Daktronics squads while freshman designated player Katelyn Vinson joined the duo on NFCA's top team and earned third-team Daktronics accolades despite earning South Central Regional Player of the Year distinction from the organization earlier this month.

Senior outfielder Courtney Bingham racked up All America honors for the second straights season gaining second-team NFCA mention and was a third-team Daktronics pick.

Jerrick earned her first national honor after hitting .417 with 17 doubles and 19 homers while driving in 54 runs.

The Belle Plaine, Kan. native is a two-time All-Lone Star Conference performer earned first-team accolades in 2012 and 2013 and was the league's Freshman of the Year in 2011.

Schaefer hit .420 in her first season at the hot corner with six doubles, a triple and 13 homers while driving in a team-high 69 runs.

The Waco Midway High product earned All-LSC first-team honors this season after she was named to the third team in 2011.

Vinson is the second player in Lone Star Conference history to complete the season with better than a .500 batting average while finishing amongst national leaders hitting .503 with 12 doubles, 22 homers and 67 RBIs. The Southlake product slugged .976 and produced a .550 on-base percentage.

Vinson, who posted multiple hits in 29 games this season, had a pair of 11-game hitting streaks while setting single-season school records in batting average, slugging percentage and home runs.

She joins former East Central standout Charene Hiesl as the only players in LSC history to hit .500. Hiesl finished the 1997 season with a .517 average.

Vinson earned LSC Freshman of the Year honors and was a first-team all-league and NFCA and Daktronics All-South Central Region performer.

Bingham garnered All-America acclaim from both organizations for the second straight season gaining second-team NFCA honors in 2012 when she also garnered honorable mention from Daktronics.

The Arlington native earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors for the second consecutive year hitting .387 with 23 doubles, six triples and four homers with 64 RBIs.

Midwestern State posted a 43-17 mark this season advancing to the NCAA Division II postseason for the eighth time in the program's 10-year history.
