WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State golfer
Santiago Gomez has been selected to the Golf Coaches Association of America 2012-13 All-Freshmen Team.
The award was announced on Wednesday evening by the coaches organization.
Gomez, the 2013 Lone Star Conference Medalist as he led the Mustangs to its first-ever LSC Championship, sported a 72.93 stroke average and ranked 16th among all NCAA Division II golfers in the GolfStat Cup rankings.
The redshirt freshman from Armenia, Colombia, was also the individual winner of the MSU Invitational in March and posted eight top 10 individual finishes this season. His sixth place finish of 4-under-par 212 at the South Central/West Super Regional in DuPont, Wash., was one stroke out of advancing to the NCAA Division II Championships individually.
Joining Gomez on the GCAA All-Freshmen Team are Adam Svennson of Barry (Fla.), winner of the Phil Mickleson Award as the Most Outstanding Freshman in Division II, Sam Johnson of Oklahoma Christian, Hunter O'Mahoney of Nova Southeastern (Fla.) and Kenny You of Dixie State (Utah).
