WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State graduate assistant coach
Daniel Hangstefer was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II South Central Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Hangstefer, in his third season at Midwestern State, was honored for his work in helping the Mustangs to a 20-6 record. The Mustangs won the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship, an NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in school history this season.
"Daniel has been a tremendous asset to the MSU program," said MSU head coach
Scott Linn. "He's a tireless worker and worked with our players in every facet of the game."
Hangstefer was humbled by the award.
"I had no idea I would be considered for this," said Hangstefer. "It's an exciting honor. I was very surprised."
The Chattanooga, Tenn., native has worked with the MSU men's and women's tennis teams since the fall of 2010 after competing and graduating from Lipsomb (Tenn.). He will complete his master's degree in counseling this August.
